"Set Apart" or "Set Above"?

An interesting article in Relevant magazine addresses the ever-so-popular comedy, "The Office", and it's stuffy, judgemental Christian-stereotype character, Angela. It's caution is warranted; is THIS how the secular world perceives Christians? How do we distinguish between living a life that is "set apart" from the world, as opposed to living as one who is seemingly "set above"?

Read the article here.

Sadly, I do believe that Christians are viewed as being self-righteous people who suffer from a bad case of pharisism (sp). People like this even turn me off to Christianity. That's why those of us who live by the GRACE of God, knowing that it doesn't matter what WE do for him, but what HE'S done for us, need to be extra loving to unbelievers. Not that the "rules" are unimportant, we just have to be following the rules because of the relationship we have with God. Not because we want to prove how great we are as Christians. Without knowing that we’re only saved by what he’s done, we will always live in a state of meaningless legalism. What a turn-off!

Somehow I missed that Angela was a Christian character on the show! It's the Hollywood stereotype all right- People like Rosie actually believe Christians are like that. The last 4 sentences in the article sum it up!
