Manna From Heaven...the Low-Carb Edition

Yesterday, I neglected to bring my checkbook to school in order to re-stock my Biola lunch card. Having no cash on me, I was really in a quandry about how to obtain lunch! I could have travelled off campus and used my ATM card, but parking here is a nightmare- especially midday- and I wasn't feeling generous enough to give up my highly-coveted spot. So, I grabbed the couple dollars in change that I had in my desk drawer and my nearly-empty Biola lunch card, and hoped that would fare me some kind of sustenance.

I happened upon a HUGE white tent on Metzger lawn, where the Biola Heath Center was conducting a Health Fair...COMPLETE with FREE FOOD! Look at how God provides! Granted I had to brave the Gardenburger and wild-rice salad (it IS a health fair, after all), but I figure that's what God wanted me to eat yesterday. It wasn't bad, but next time I'd prefer manna in the form of...chicken sandwiches and caesar salad.

Beggars can't be choosers, right?

What Kanye West and I Have in Common...

Tagged by Bobby Marchessault! DOAH! Here's the deal:

When tagged, you have to take your birthday date and find out some things about it. You have to find, events, other people who were born on the same day, deaths and a holiday.

Since I was tagged by BOBBY, who has the SAME BIRTHDAY as me, my challenge is great. He stole all the "good ones". BAH! He did, however, cite me in the list of important births, so I will extend the same courtesy here. HERE WE GO......JUNE 8TH!!!!

Events

1861 - American Civil War: Tennessee secedes from the Union.
1866 - The Canadian Parliament meets for the first time in Ottawa. (interesting, aye?)
1949 - Such celebrities as Helen Keller, Dorothy Parker, Danny Kaye, Fredric March, John Garfield, Paul Muni and Edward G. Robinson are named in an FBI report as Communist Party members.
1968 - The body of assassinated U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

Births

1867 - Frank Lloyd Wright, American architect
1925 - Barbara Bush, First Lady of the United States
1966 - Julianna Margulies, American actress
1977 - Kanye West, American Rapper
1979 - Bobby Marchessault, American worship leader/Pimp (see below)

1980- Becky Perry- American Princess
2007- Baby Corns (we're hopeful Kayden will make his appearance on this day!)

Deaths

632 - Muhammed, prophet of Islam
1845 - Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States
(sorry, Bobby....these were the only ones I KNEW!)

Holiday

World Ocean Day

AND NOW....My turn to tag some of YOU! THE WINNERS ARE.....(oh, so many to choose from....)

Midrash (Rob)
But It's Cool, Man...I'm a Flight Attendant (Jason)
Snap Shots (Beth)
Meanderings of a Restless Wanderer (Christopher)

GO!

Best Week Ever...

Holla, peeps! MY APOLOGIES for the small hiatis in blogging. It happens, ya know? I'm making my way back, and have LOTS to share!

Chris came to visit from Minnesota (yippee!), so I took a couple days off work to show him what Southern California is all aboooout- we hit all the quintessential stops in the few days he was here...photo documentation provided below. Unfortunately, the weather didn't make it's usual sunny impression as it pelted us with rain on Friday. No worries- it was bookended by two BEAUTIFUL days, which we utilized for some games of tennis and a trip to Santa Monica.

Stolling around Shoreline Village in Downtown Long Beach.

Fun with Kaelyn (and Stephen and Steph) at lunch.

Some photography work by Kaelyn...who can also be credited with the top picture on this post. She's got some mad skills, huh!?

Following lunch, we met up with Mikey and the COTW, who were right around the corner from my place! Loved getting to see them all again and spend some time in worship.

The kids show "Uncle Chris" some tricks they learned with string.

The kids join me in singing "How Great is Our God".

And Chris gets accosted by a giraffe.

Then, off to the Happiest Place on Earth!

Swooning Minnie.

And greeting Mickey.

Ummm.....WHERE is the sun again?

Breakfast at the Bake 'n' Broil with Cheri

And sunset on Signal Hill.

Pretty Dress

Kinda weird....but cute!
Enjoy!

LYRICS for "Pretty Dress" by Rosie Thomas

Put your pretty dress on
it's time for you to go to the dance
tie your hair in ribbons and lace
and wear pearls round your neck
And all the pretty princes will see you
All the pretty princes will see you
Some day
Some day

Put your red boots on
it's time for you to walk home from school
every one will laugh
they'll point fingers at you
they'll be cruel
but cover up your ears and don't listen
because you'll know much better than them
some day
some day

and they'll wave to you
and they'll wave to you

put your red coat on
and walk with a light in the woods
if it gets dark dont get scared
their's so much waiting for you
cover up your tears and dont show them
cause you'll know much better than them
some day
some day

and they'll wave to you
and they'll wave to you
and they'll wave to you
and they'll wave to you

cause they don't see you like i see you
if they did, they'd see
the nice litte girl whose
grown up to become homecoming queen

put your pretty dress on
put your red boots on

What is UP with my EYE??

ARRRRGGG! My bottom eyelid has been twitching for an hour now. What IS that? Seriously...does anyone know what causes that? (p.s. the picture included here is not my actual eye.)

Paraskavedekatriaphobia.

Paraskavedekatriaphobia is a fear of FRIDAY the 13th.

I hope you are all doing well today.
Muahhhh ha haaaa....

I was interested in the origin of this superstition, so I checked it out. Though it can't be traced to one event, there are many theories surrounding this significant date. Some include:

1. The Last Supper...with Judas being the 13th guest, and the crucifixion of Jesus occuring on a Friday.
2. Reports that the biblical offering of the apple from Eve to Adam occured on a Friday, as did the slaying of Abel (though this is never documented in the Bible)
3. That it started on Friday, October 13, 1307, the date that many Knights Templar were simultaneously arrested in France, by agents of King Philip IV.

The next Friday the 13th will be in July, 2007.

Which 24 Character are You?

Thanks, Bambrick...I was TOTALLY looking for this quiz online yesterday! I think you will be pleased with my results...

Fun at Downtown Disney

Post Easter-Rehearsal, I met up with my parents and friends for some dinner at the Jazz Kitchen, located in Downtown Disney. Eating on the patio gave us a front-row view of the Disney fireworks show (and we KNOW how much I like fireworks...) AND my first experience with Creme Brulee. Not too shabby.

The Rumors are TRUE.

Come May 14th, we'll be shelling out $0.41 for A postage stamp. One stamp.
"The Man" gets us again.

Smooth Criminal

Just another wicked awesome musician to showcase. Check out Alex Depue's fiddlework at an open mic night in San Diego...

O, Wise Coffee Cup...Part 2

My tall Gingerbread latte (yes, you can still order these if you ask nicely!) shared the following nugget of wisdom with me this morning:

"There's a difference between INTEREST and COMMITTMENT. When you are INTERESTED in something, you do it only when circumstances permit. When you're COMMITTED to something, you accept no excuses...just results."
-Art Turock, Sales Strategist

It makes me think...
Am I INTERESTED in, or COMMITTED to:
-Prayer?
-My music?
-My schoolwork?
-Maintaining friendships?
-Scripture reading?

Thanks, coffee cup, for providing both fodder for the brain, and the energy to pursue thinking about it.

Easter at Revolution DOWNEY!

Greetings, friends! Thanks to the MANY of you who were praying for the launch of our new Revolution campus in Downey, California. It was an interesting, exciting, challenging journey (for those of you who were following the Bellflower-to-Downey transition, you know what I mean), but HE who began a GOOD WORK is FAITHFUL to complete it!

And we saw the fruits of faithfulness unfold as hundreds attended our inaugural service at Columbus High School. With minor scrapes and bruises (most remedied prior to the start of the service), we survived an INTENSE day of worship, celebration, and spiritual conversation about forgiveness.

Revolution will be giving away this car, used as the street team vehicle for the last couple years, at the end of April.

"It's not a Revolution event without a bounce house."

The information table is equipped with friendly smiles!

Kaelyn is in her Easter best!

Mom and I are in-sync in green this Easter!

CELEBRATION!

Brandy and Butka rocked the drama!

Crown Him With Many Crowns

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne.
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

Crown Him the virgin’s Son, the God incarnate born,
Whose arm those crimson trophies won which now His brow adorn;
Fruit of the mystic rose, as of that rose the stem;
The root whence mercy ever flows, the Babe of Bethlehem.

Crown Him the Son of God, before the worlds began,
And ye who tread where He hath trod, crown Him the Son of Man;
Who every grief hath known that wrings the human breast,
And takes and bears them for His own, that all in Him may rest.

Crown Him the Lord of life, who triumphed over the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife for those He came to save.
His glories now we sing, Who died, and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of peace, Whose power a scepter sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease, and all be prayer and praise.
His reign shall know no end, and round His piercèd feet
Fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown Him the Lord of love, behold His hands and side,
Those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified.
No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright.

Crown Him the Lord of Heaven, enthroned in worlds above,
Crown Him the King to Whom is given the wondrous name of Love.
Crown Him with many crowns, as thrones before Him fall;
Crown Him, ye kings, with many crowns, for He is King of all.

Crown Him the Lord of lords, who over all doth reign,
Who once on earth, the incarnate Word, for ransomed sinners slain,
Now lives in realms of light, where saints with angels sing
Their songs before Him day and night, their God, Redeemer, King.

Crown Him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou has died for me;
Thy praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity.

Time of Death: 9:04 p.m.

Beep.....beep.....beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....
That's right.
With low B, low C, middle A, middle C#, middle D, middle D#, high A, high C, and high E all now out of commission, my keyboard was pronounced dead last night. The RD-500 served for 10 years as my trusty keyboard for ministry, weddings, and shows. Roland, I'll miss your perfectly weighted keys, fabulous piano sound, and wonderful memories of years gone by. I will NOT miss your jenky strings patch, your faulty input jack that requires DUCT TAPE, the mode keys that now take two or three presses as opposed to just ONE, or the aforementioned MISSING KEYS. Come to think of it, good riddance.
