This morning I woke up in a cozy bed.
I brushed my teeth with clean water and drove to work in my own car. On the way, I stopped at Starbucks for a cafe Mocha. I sat down in my office in front of my Mac flatscreen computer to type this blog for you. At my feet is my purse, which holds my ipod, my digital camera, a cell phone, palm-pilot calendar and more cosmetics than I actually use. I just plugged in my bluetooth to charge.
I'm feeling rich today.

Yeah. All those countries with no drinking water, and we waste our money on bottled water, not to mention the trash it generates.
Check out this post that really got me thinking about that:

I got back from the Crossroads high school mission trip to Mexico. We couldn't bring our cellphones or iPods with us, Pastor Scott said he'd confiscate them if we did and we'd never see them again. The whole way down there, I was missing my iPod like crazy.
While in Mexico, I met many kids my age and younger who don't really even have a roof over their heads, much less a damn iPod. I was amazed how they entertained themselves just with what they had (a pie tin for a frisbee for example). I thought of how selfish I was, yearning for my iPod during the long drive down there.
I have been home for two days and see my iPod sitting there. I haven't touched it yet. All I can see are those kids playing frisbee with the pie tin, enjoying it more than I ever could with my iPod.
Have you read Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger or Irresistible Revolution? Both of these on a local and global perspective have shaped my view of these things and what we can do to make a difference.
