Advent Conspiracy

I'm sure many of you have already seen this video, as it's been making the rounds in many churches. For those who haven't, here is your chance! It's a powerful commentary on Christmas consumerism...check it out:

Which part is most powerful to you?

I like this video and was really hit by it the first time I saw it. I was ready to really scale back this year.

The only problem I have is that they fudge the numbers. I did the math and it seemed like I only had to give up 2% of my Christmas budget. That is a no-brainer. I could do that in my sleep. But that seemed too good to be true.

Unfortunately the 450 Billion number being thrown around for how much we spend on Christmas is simply not true. They get that number by adding the total spending in the months of November and December for everything - food, gas, housing, etc... and call it Christmas spending.

In reality we would have to sacrifice far more than a few dollars to get clean water to all the world's poor. I am fine with them asking for a big sacrifice, I just wish they'd be honest.

Hey Jamie,

Glad you were able to find my page and the snow effect, isn't it great! I re-posted the blog, which you commented on, along with the link. For some reason the new template I used erased all my work for the day. Anyway, glad to see that life is going well and we hope you have a Merry Christmas!

Thanks Jamie. I feel like I need this reminder every year. This really helps to put things into perspective.
