D-Day is Coming.

I'd keep a heads up for other biblical end-time prophecies, because I'm pretty sure the ball is rolling with this jaw-dropper: We're getting a dog. I know, I know...you thought it would never happen, especially after this post (by the way, check out the comment-a-palooza on that one!). However, the time feels right and the opportunity kinds of hit us out of the blue.

We weren't looking, and I can assure you, if Chris didn't want one so darn bad we wouldn't have a dog at all. But this one tugged a little at our heartstrings. She's a 3-4 year old Siberian Husky who has been tied to a tree her entire life (just imagine that, ALL YEAR LONG here in MN). When her owners moved, they left her tied to the tree. That's when the pound picked her up and a rescue agency placed her in a foster home...one of Chris' friends from High School. We saw pics on Facebook and, well, for a girl that doesn't think a lot of dogs are "cute", I thought she was pretty cute. We've been in the adoption process for about a week, and it looks like we'll be picking her up on Thursday!
(Luna at the pound)

Now, since the "dog" thing is really Chris' baby, he understands that he'll be the one sleeping downstairs to kennel train, picking up her poop, and waking up to walk her at whatever god-awful hour she arises. For now, I'm enjoying the last few days of laying on the floor without a nose in my face, or eating on the couch without simultaneously whiffing panting dog breath.

(sigh) It was bound to happen sometime.

Beautiful Dog, they tend to be VERY ENERGETIC [you know they pull sleds] so walking them can be a task [remember they like to pull ;)]

We had one when living in Idaho, so did our neighbor. Enjoy!

SO beautiful. I'm moving to Indiana at the end of this summer, so I'll be closer to you- so I might just have to make a trip to come see you. How does that sound? Could I come stay for a week?

I continue to praise the Lord for my husband being allergic to BOTH cats and dogs. Then again, he doesn't like them anyway.

Good luck to Chris, the single father!

She is a beautiful dog, though.

I'm happy for you guys! Of course, I'm a dog-lover...

You'll be great doggie parents, and I wouldn't be shocked if you slowy became a dog-liker (love might be a strong word here) yourself! :-)

With that said...she is pretty cute, and love her name!

So how big is she? Sounds like she is going to need lots of lovin to make up for years tied to a tree...poor baby!

Huskies are SO MUCH FUN .. they love exercise, love to run (i.e., dog parks are ideal). If they get loose, they tend keep going in a straight line and never come back (like pulling a sled), so HOLD ON! They are so intelligent and love attention and can be SO silly sometimes ... I hope you really enjoy her ... who couldn't love that face, those ears, her eyes, that coat that sheds GREATLY twice a year ... she's lucky to have you! Invest in a Furminator (a comb) .. worth every cent ... get some bouncy, soft tough rubber toys and/or canvas ... they love to chew, love to chase things ... look for a rubber toy that looks like a round ball with feet or a round ball with a dragon spike tail along the back also with feet .. these are made out of rubber and are crazy bouncy (the softer ones are actually easier to chew) ... also plays with empty 2-liter plastic bottles (noisy, though) ... makes me laugh ...

My sister has adopted a cat and Dog through that process. The dog was abused pretty badly by it's owner, so they had to use some training techniques to help him understand he was in a new environment. It took a while for the dog to be sociable, but the dog is quite obedient.

I suggest Chris learn how to skateboard so She can pull him down the streets. Or a bike and pull him or you that way!! I guess roller blades would work to.

Have fun! and enjoy!

I here the "Dog Whisperer" is a good show to watch with training dogs!

This beauty is more than "cute"! You can see the love and adoration in her eyes. Does she have a name yet? We are animal lovers, having downgraded from having two or three dogs and cats at a time, to two kitties who pretty much rule the house, but at our stage in life, it's just easier. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Once the initial bonding/training period is over, you will find that she is a loving, loyal member of your family.

Suggestions: Don't use mobile conveniences while "walking" your dog until you really get to know her ... she may have you flying in directions you don't want to go! Road burns are awful ... Also, my husky loves Greenies, a dog treat that is designed to help with doggie breath ... to save $, I get the "teenie" size (even though my dog is 60 pounds) and cut them in half ... that's enough for the breath AND the treat ... FYI, too many of those makes him cranky, so limitation is good ... also we live in a very hot climate, so we bought a small plastic (not inflatable) kiddie pool and put it on the patio with just an inch or so of water in it ... he stands in it when he gets hot and it's a lifesaver ... he also likes to just lay in the dry bathtub for porcelain coolness ... have to watch for overheating in these dogs ... huskies also like to dig! They like to chew on socks, washcloths, etc., and then bury them to dig up later .. .they like to dig under fences and are escape artists ... get a book from your pet store and read all about them ... all said, ours has been the best dog EVER ... hope you agree ....
