But It's "Such A Lovely Place!!"

I came downstairs to find my husband rocking out on his Guitar Hero this weekend (and by rocking out, well...I should video-tape the entertainment...). We had a date to go head-to-head in Wii Bowling, so he said he'd wrap up his jam session by playing one more song. The next randomly selected song to come up was "Hotel California," to which he remarked "I hate this song." I figured he was just sick of hearing it too much, so I clarified "wait...you are TIRED of this song, or you HATE this song?" He said again, "I HATE this song." Wow. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone HATING this song! That's a really strong statement. Personally, I love the song- and not just because it mentions California. It's got one of those awesomely creepy minor-key guitar solos, and it grooves!

I bring this debate to you...
Are you checking IN or checking OUT of the Hotel California??

Is it the lyrics he doesn't like, or the music, or both? The lyrics alone are creepy, and I don't know what half of it means. Do you?

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
"this could be heaven or this could be hell"
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel California
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
"please bring me my wine"
He said, "we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine"
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said "we are all just prisoners here, of our own device"
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"relax," said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Maybe I don't want to know what the lyrics mean!

Hard to hate the song, musically it's pretty awesome, however the lyrics are so so...

I can easily say I'm tired of it though the acoustic version from 8 or 9 years ago was simply amazing and sparked back my interest!

Oooh! I'd love to hear the acoustic version! :)

Here's the acoustic/unplugged version I was talking about:

OK I feel REALLY old now because it was back in 95 when it came out, not "8 or 9 years ago!"

OH and watch the part where he does that amazing guitar thing with his hands! It's like magic!

So sweet. I'll be sure to share this version with Chris :)

The Eagles over all are one of my all time favorites. Carlos and I got the DVD Eagles Farewell Tour I (2 discs)from Netflix. Man everything about it was perfect. Carlos said, "we gotta buy this." Hotel California? Oh yeah.

I will check in with you Jamie. Do you think they have a Spa where we could book some pedicures together?

Not a big fan of the hotel.
Or the Satanic Church as one would put it!
